Edited by Sharon Lai
July 09, 2010 On April 14, 2010, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Yushu County, Qinghai Province, causing serious loss of life and property. For the relief, the SFDA has issued a notice to call for strengthening supervision on quality of drugs, medical devices and food, especially on the donation. SFDA asked all the subordinate organizations to focus on the quality of drugs and medical devices supplying for the relief. It was necessary to strictly supervise and inspect the quality of the donation. Moreover, donated domestic drugs must be qualified products and approved by SFDA, which had a current using period of at least 6 months. For the donated domestic medical devices, they should be approved and qualified as well, and have Medical Device Registration Certificate. Additionally, there must be more than 6 months from the expiration date for single-used sterile medical devices. In addition, donated abroad medical devices must either be certificated in China or be approved and qualified by the related departments of foreign countries. SFDA requested the provincial food and drug administration departments in the earthquake-stricken areas to update the list of the donation in time and products and take extra concentration on accepting, inspecting, distributing, recording and so on. For the illegal circumstances such as the fake and expired donation, investigation and punishment must be carried out severely according to the law. pd:July 09, 2010 | md:July 09, 2010
