Edited by Sharon Lai
July 09, 2010 Recently, a project about Thoracoscopy and composite technology in Cardiovascular Disease Research, organized by the Ministry of Health for nonprofit industry started in Beijing. In the project, Shanghai Grand mind Hospital was recognized as a seventh of minimally invasive training bases in cardiovascular surgery in China. Minimal invasion is very important for the development of surgery. As well it is a characteristic of thoracoscope cardiac surgery, in which only three holes are enough for the chest heart surgery, minimizing the surgical trauma. Therefore, as a heart hospital, Shanghai Grand mind hospital started research on minimal invasive cardiac surgery in 2007. Furthermore, the international thoracoscopic conference and thoracoscopy class were successfully organized by the hospital both in 2008 and 2009. In addition, the Third International Symposium is under the meticulous preparation. Especially, a team of experts on thoracoscope cardiac surgery has been organized by Shanghai Grand mind Hospital. In the team, Cheng Yunge, chairman of Thoracoscopic Academic Committee which is associated with Cardiovascular Surgery Doctor Association of Chinese Medical Association, is in charge. Thereby, a series of minimal invasive surgeries can be performed, including thoracoscopic repair of ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect repair, single and double heart valve replacement, and so on. A leader of the hospital said, the hospital would ad hoc set up a thoracoscopic atrial fibrillation clinic this year. Based on thoracoscopic atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect repair and heart valve replacement, the usage of thoracoscopy would expand to the radiofrequency catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation. pd:July 09, 2010 | md:July 09, 2010
