The first case of pulmonary vein stenosis stent implantation was successfully implemented in China

June 28, 2010 Recently, Shanghai Chest Hospital successfully conducted the first case of interventional treatment of pulmonary vein stenosis. Therefore, a dying patient who has three severe pulmonary vein stenosis regained a new life. The 58-year old patient named Mr. Xie, who is from wenzhou, zhejiang, lived a life with poor quality before the effective treatment. Due to severe stenosis of his left lower, the right upper pulmonary vein, and the right lower part which was almost closed, he got congestion and edema of both lungs. Furthermore, he had severe pulmonary hypertension and left atrial disuse atrophy. After a slight activity, he would had a symptom of difficulty in breathing, which was accompanied by severe coughing, wheezing. In addition, he could not be supine at night. After the consultation of experts from Department of Cardiology, Shanghai Chest Hospital, a decision, which was to give the patient a minimally invasive treatment of Cardiology had been made. With the help of Angiography, Pan Xin, deputy chief physician from Cardiology, sent a thin catheter with the diameter of only 0.5 mm to pulmonary vein stenosis, made it expand and then implanted stents. As a result, three pulmonary vein stenosises had been successfully removed. Instantly the blood flowed smoothly and unimpeded.
