SFDA's Management Center for Medical Device Standards was unveiled

2010年06月23日 On March 30, 2010, the unveiling ceremony for the Management Center for Medical Device Standards of SFDA was held in National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products (NICPBP). Zhang Jingli, Deputy Commissioner of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), attended the ceremony and gave a speech. There are five major functions of the Management Center for Medical Device Standards of SFDA. Firstly, it is founded by the SFDA to organize relevant medical device Standardization Technical Committee to establish and revise the medical device standards. Secondly, it will carry out the research on the medical device standards system and give relevant policies and proposals for project planning. Then it will focus on some technical works such as the nomenclature, classification and coding of medical device. Still, the center will provide guidance to the national Medical Devices standard business. In addition, it will undertake other affairs assigned by SFDA. Zhang said that the establishment of the center played a critical role on the standardization and supervision of medical device. SFDA would greatly encourage the improvement and innovation of medical device standards. With the support of SFDA, the center will establish and improve the medical device standards system. As a result, China’s medical device industry will be further developed. To ensure the safety and effectiveness of medical devices for the public, more supports will be provided to the supervision of medical devices by the center. According to statistics, China has promulgated 180 national standards of medical devices, 727 industrial standards of medical devices.
