China Has Developed A New Chip

January 19, 2012 “A new generation human-machine interactive system for stable identification of someone’s intention” developed by Duan Feng (粁桁), the associate professor of Information and Technology Science Institute of Nankai University, recently obtained the first prize of invention project in the first China’s Tianjin Technology Pioneering Competition. Someone’s intension can be identified through this system with a piece of tiny chip adhered to the skin. Controlling the electronic or mechanical equipments not only can allow the disabled easily to write or catch something with their prosthetic limbs and hemiplegic patients to recover to walk in a normal way accompanied by gradual eliminated side-effects, but also can be used to develop more intelligent walking assistant machine for the elderly ...... This system with stable human-machine interactive identification can be widely used in rehabilitation medicine field. Mr. Duan Feng (粁桁) introduced that the corresponding instructions would be transmitted from the brain to the muscles in form of electric impulse through the spinal cord and motor nerves when people moved the limbs, which produced electric chemical reactions in synapses at the neuromuscular connections leading to muscle contraction and superficial electromyographic signals. The motion of different muscles controlled by self-consciousness produced corresponding different superficial electromyographic signals. Therefore, different intentions could be effectively obtained by recognizing different electromyographic signals characteristics, thereby to dominate the machines’ corresponding actions. At present, some medical devices using this technology including electrical stimulation foot droop therapy machine, electromyographic artificial hand, walking assistant machine for the elderly have entered clinical trials and product authentication stage. The project’s research team is consists of Nankai University, Tokyo University and many other scientific research institutions, which has established international cooperation platform of industry, science and research. At the same time, the project team joints Tianjin Tianyi Medical Rehabilitation Apparatus Factory to build an enterprise platform, on which related technology will be incubated for industrialization. pd:January 16, 2012 | md:January 19, 2012
